The underlying goal of each of our core addiction Recovery, prison Re-Entry and community Rescue ministries is to provide men, women and families the opportunities and resources they need to become whole, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

Our support services are vital extensions of our life-changing programs.

The Foundry Dental Center provides low-cost exams and procedures to Foundry program participants and families or individuals in the community in need of affordable dental care. Most basic services are performed for $25. The Dental Center was established by Dr. Michael McCracken, a professor at UAB School of Dentistry, who partners with other volunteer dental professionals and UAB dental students to offer a wide spectrum of care. The center also provides employment readiness opportunities for program participants in The Foundry’s recovery program, offering on-the-job training in dental assisting, front-desk management and lab work. Patients from the community are encouraged to call for an appointment.

Overcoming addictions and destructive behaviors is certainly a major component of The Foundry Ministries’ programs and a critical first step toward rebuilding lives.  But with little or no education, the potential for the future is severely limited, even for men and women who are clean and sober or who are ready to re-enter society.

Located in our Foundry Thrift Store in Fairfield and at Foundry Farm near Cullman, The Foundry’s Resource Centers help program participants focus on adult education, academic development and increasing employment potential.  We provide GED preparation through a partnership with Wallace State Community College for program participants at Foundry Farm.  Individuals with a passion for education tutor students in reading, math, writing, computer skills and other critical competencies and offer positive reinforcement and encouragement.

The Foundry’s collaboration with Changed Lives Christian Center (CLCC) in Birmingham allows us to provide transitional housing for graduates of our Men’s Recovery and Re-Entry programs, as well as shelter for homeless men in the area who have or are seeking employment.  Men can live in the 56-bed center for six months to two years and are provided with meals, clothing, basic medical care, recovery services and job-placement assistance.  Those who have employment pay an affordable weekly fee for the accommodations, while those looking for work perform tasks at CLCC or The Foundry’s other facilities.  Living at CLCC provides residents with a mailing address, which is essential in their job searches and networking opportunities.

Managed by The Foundry, the collaboration extends our continuum of care for our graduates by two years, allowing them more time and resources to prepare for a successful transition back into the community.  At the same time we can offer life-skills classes, GED preparation and other courses in our Education Center to homeless men in the CLCC shelter who are not part of our programs, as well as meals and basic medical care to the homeless on the streets of downtown Birmingham.
